Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps.
From one room to several, ductless split systems deliver affordable cooling and heating with some of the most efficient SEER ratings available. Users get room-by-room temperature management with minimal fluctuation, improved air quality and a wide variety of features.
What is a Ductless Mini Split System?
Ductless Mini Splits provide a flexible solution for indoor temperature management and are a good alternative to central, forced air systems when installing ductwork is neither feasible nor cost-effective. They provide an excellent option for remodels, room additions and as a supplement to existing HVAC systems.
How It Works?
Ductless Mini Splits consists of three primary components:
- An Outdoor Condensing Unit.
- An Indoor Air Handler/Evaporator.
- A 3″-4″ diameter conduit housing a powercable, refrigerant tubing and a condensate drain.
The condenser is installed outside the home or structure and the conduit is run from the outdoor unit to individual offices, bedrooms, living rooms, computer/server rooms, basements, anywhere a controlled temperature is desired. Wall-mounted interior units are then placed in the desired spaces to cool or warm air as needed by means of refrigerant flowing between the outdoor and indoor units through tubing in the conduit.

Comfort Zones.
The main advantages of mini splits are their small size and flexibility for zoning or heating and cooling individual rooms. Many models can have as many as four indoor air-handling units (for four zones or rooms) connected to one outdoor unit. The number depends on how much heating or cooling is required for the building or each zone (which in turn is affected by how well the building is insulated and air sealed). Each of the zones has its own thermostat, so you only need to condition occupied spaces. This will save energy and money.
Energy Efficiency.
Because they do not rely upon long stretches of ductwork (which can often be leaky) to deliver heated or cooled air, ductless systems are generally more efficient overall. In fact, distribution energy loss in typical forced air systems has been estimated to be as high as 40%, while estimates for energy loss in ductless systems range from 1% to 5%. Whereas typical systems generally cap out at 18 SEER, ductless systems, most of which are ENERGY STAR® qualified, can achieve up to 26 SEER*, greatly reducing utility bills.
Inverter Technology.
An inverter compressor, rather than being totally off or totally on, runs gradually with many speed variations, always striving for the most efficient operation. Inverters generally run on standby idle, making small, incremental changes to keep a constant temperature. They’re extremely efficient in heating and cooling and may even qualify for government efficiency rebates.
Quiet Operation.
Mini-Split Systems operate very quietly, because the noise of the compressors and motors occurs in the outdoor unit. The indoor air handlers disperse air very quietly and efficiently.
Improved Indoor Air Quality.
Ductless Mini Split Systems dehumidify as they cool, allowing you to maximize the comfort levels in your home. Many models also feature a wireless handheld remote control so you can adjust the cooling level from your couch or bed! Mini splits also help improve indoor air quality. With no air being circulated through ducts, there are fewer airborne particles and contaminants in your home’s air, which cuts down on respiratory issues and the aggravation of allergies or asthma.
All Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioners with heat pump use the environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant. This refrigerant does not deplete the ozone layer and is seen as the logical replacement for Freon R-22. Additionally, use of R-410A adds to the efficiency and reliability of the Air Conditioner and heat pump.
Minimal Maintenance.
Ductless Systems are easy to maintain, many of them featuring washable filters and only requiring periodic cleaning. Because of their outdoor location, the condensing units provide easy access for contractors when scheduled maintenance is indicated.
Easier to Install.
A key advantage of split systems is their ease of installation. Hook-up requires only a three-inch hole (7.62 centimeters) in the wall for the conduit. Unlike with central air conditioning, you do not need ductwork. Since the compressor in most ductless split-systems is as much as 50 feet (15.24 meters) away from the indoor evaporator, it is usually possible to cool rooms on the front side of the house, while still hiding the compressor in a less conspicuous area. The compressor units also fit well on flat commercial building rooftops.
